Install GUI

Hi,

I'm new to Linux and i've got a basic VPS with a minimal version of CentOS running.

I've managed to access this using SSH.

I'd like to try and access it using a GUI if possible in the same way RDP works on Windows.

I tried the following command which was successful

yum groupinstall "x window system"

I'm stuck now how to access the gui remotely, is this possible?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

There are several ways to do that, NX and RealVNC are two.
You can also connect remotely to the Xserver, never tried so I can't help you with that.

Another possibility is X-forwarding over ssh, meaning you start the application on server but get it displayed on your desktop.
To do that, login with "ssh -Y" (X must of course be running on the server).
Then start the application from terminal, and it will show up on your screen.

Oh, and you might have to enable X-forwarding on server:
Check /etc/ssh/sshd_config, it shall have a line
"X11Forwarding yes"

How minimal did you install? Does it have a gui locally?
