Install Gmail notifier on Linux

Hello all,
I'd download the gmail notifier from this location:
http://gmail-notify.sourceforge.net/download.php

I extract it, but I don't know what does that mean:
then go into the created directory with the files and start the notifier with ./notifier.py
Can some body explain more?
Thanks in advance

You are running kubuntu i presume why not just do this
Code:
sudo apt-get install gmail-notify

It simply stats to launch the notifier from the command line
Code:
./notifier.py
once you have downloaded and extracted the source package, you don't have to compile anything: the notifier is a Python script ready to use. Just run it and you will be notified when a mail is received at your Gmail account. Of course you have to edit the notifier.conf file to specify information about your Gmail account and some other option. Then you may want to run the notifier automatically every time you log in: look at documentation of your desktop environment to see how to start applications upon login.

For example in GNOME you go through menu System --> Preferences --> Sessions and then add a Startup Program. Instructions for KDE are in the README file of the gmail notifier.

I am sorry for posting 2 threads with the same topic.
Anyway:
sudo apt-get install gmail-notify

I got this error:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package gmail-notify

as for :
./notifier.py
its not working

Look at your /etc/apt/sources.list file and see if the line
Code:
deb http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ <version> universe
is uncommented

i'd go this:
gmail-notify: Depends: python2.4-gtk2 but it is not installable
Depends: python2.4-gnome2-extras but it is not installable

about this:
deb http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ <version> universe
should I enter it as it in the sources.list?
Thanks

No you need to substitute <version> with your version of kubuntu
