Install fails, error: "CD is broken"

 Hello...

I have downloaded the Eval DVD iso for SuSe 10.0... and burned it on a DVD. But the install fails (gives errors for certain packages during install, doesn't let me set a password etc)... and upon aborting & verifying the DVD it says "CD is broken"...

I have used Getright (4 segmented download)... and then used Nero to burn it onto a DVD. Before burning i also tallied the md5sum for the file and it matches completely.

Can it be a probelm due to...
1) segmented downloading? (but the md5sum tallies!)
2) an issue with my DVD burner?

Currently I am downloading the CD version of the same... coz I have burnt and used Live CDs for Mepis successfully...
Anyone seen the samething? Any suggestions?

It's hard to say. Do you have an option to try with another drive/anoter machine? If you have, check it.

It's more likely something with burning than segmentated download (MD5 conflicts - two files with the same sum - are possible, but not likely).

try to install SUSE.DVD in Virtual PC(VPC). Maybe you can find some new things.

Notes: if you use Virtual PC, plz mount the DVD into daemon virtual cdrom, then capture the correspoinding virtual cdrom device in VPC.

Otherwise, if you directly capture the DVD iso image in VPC, some errors will possibly occur.

Good luck!!

Thanks...

I will try burning thru a diff DVD Drive as soon...

In the meantime, I am downloading the 5 CDs version... as i have not had this problem when i downloaded Mepis / Ubuntu Live CD isos & burnt on reg CDs...

I am using a Toshiba Sat P10-554... and i am quite convinced that the drive is def. below par :( May need to get an external drive soon :((

b.t.w. if i have the md5 for the iso... and I have matched it exact with the downloaded iso... and subsequently burnt it on DVD... then is there a way to use md5 and check the DVD? I.e. can I do something to compare the iso md5 with the DVD md5? And how can i generate the DVD md5, comparable to the iso md5?

This will let me know which step fails...
