install expect via source.

I installed tmux in the tmp directory at work withthe help of this tutorial
Code:
https://gist.github.com/ryin/3106801
and it has increased my productivity ten fold.

Let me tell you what else would help - EXPECT.

Is there are tutorial on how to install expect from the tarball (including what ever dependencies are required.) without root. I would have to bring in the tarball via flash drive like i did tmux.

Hi,

the only missing dep is probably tcl. So...

Code:
wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tcl/tcl8.5.15-src.tar.gz
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/expect/Expect/5.45/expect5.45.tar.gz

tar xzf tcl8.5.15-src.tar.gz
cd tcl8.5.15/unix
./configure --prefix=$HOME/local
make
make install
cd ../../

tar xzf expect5.45.tar.gz
cd expect5.45
./configure --prefix=$HOME/local
make
make install
Hopefully the next time you want to install something you might be able to work it out for yourself. Better yet, just ask your sys admin to install using the package manager.
