instal RH8.0
 

hi, i'm avery-very newbie in linux. i'm using windows for about 99% of my lifetime.

Recently, i've just bought a RH 8.0 linux. and i'm so confused about installing it in my system, because i've read this forum and it sounds scary to install RH 8.0...many hardware problems occur. i mean i think linux doesn't support almost any new hardware. that's why i'm still afraid to install it.

my system is :

1.MOtherboard Asus P4PE w/ serial ATA, Gigabit ethernet,integrated soundmax card,etc with Intel 845PE
2.VGA card : pixelview GeForce 4 MX440 64MB AGP 8x
3. CD-ROM liteon 52x
4.cd rw liteon 52x24x52x
5. Visipro memory 512Mb

I also have 2 hard drive. the primay master is for windows XP, and 'm planning to put my RH 8.0 into my slave HD.

Can, i download first all of the drivers ( if i find them) from my windows XP? so, when i install RH 8.0 i can update the driver.

could anyone help me???i'm still afraid if i install RH 8.0 will crashing my system. can anyone tell me how and where to get those driver,please?

If someone is very-very pities me, please explain me step-by-step to install RH 8.0 with my hardware specification.... :cry:

please,because i really-really want to install RH8.0 because i think windows is very sucks. my computer has infected by virus because windows has many holes... :(

Unless you have really arcane hardware most of your hardware should be fine. It always sounds scary first but then it looks scarier to go back to M$.
All you really have to do is partition your hard disk.
Size of the partition will depend upon what you want to put on RH linux from a full install 6GB to a custom install(size can vary).
Get your BIOS to boot from CD, select Graphical Install(ENTER).
Apart from that just tell the Redhat installer(anaconda) to just automatically do everything after you select your mouse/keyboard(which isn't difficult). Most of the stuff is pretty self explanatory and there is always a help bar on the side if you need more information.
If you really want consult a book but I've found most books aren't really helpful with installing so I just ignore them.

If worst comes to worst just CRTL + ALT + DEL and the installation will be cancelled and nothing will have happened.

With your setup(linux on the slave) if you select the create boot floppy is probably the easiest way to go and don't write to the MBR/or put a boot loader before the first 1024 cylinders.
