Instakking Java sdk on Mandrake 9.1

Hi all! I downloaded j2sdk v 1.4.2 from the Sun site, and tried to install it by:

chmod a+x j2sdk-1_4_2_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin
./j2sdk-1_4_2_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin
type "yes" to the liscence agreement
rpm -ivh j2sdk-1_4_2_02-linux-i586.rpm

It seemed to work fine and nothing printed any error messages. But when I tried to use javac (javac HelloWorldApp.java) it says "bash: javac: command not found". My problem is that I have no idea how to check whether java installed properly, or how to find out where it installed to. Can anyone help please?

slocate javac might work... ummm...it's possible it might be in /sbin/javac, /usr/local/bin/, /usr/java not really sure though... there might be some information on the site as to where it installs to. otherwise a locate or slocate might find it for you (can't remember which one it is).
