Insatlling Mandrake on a slave drive
 

ok i want to insatll mandrake on my slave drive because my windows is down on my master and i am dying without a comp i am sendin this from my campus how can i insatll mandrake 9.1 on my slave drive the farthest i can get is to the mount point on my slve then it askes for amount point but i dont have 1 so i was told mabye a lilo booter where can i get that

your primary slave drive is /dev/hdb...

your root partition will probably be /dev/hdb1

your swap partition will probably be /dev/hdb5

your home partition will probably be /dev/hdb6

during the part of the mandrake install you mention, you get to make the partitions and mount points for them... in other words, the installer itself will make the partitions and create the mountpoints, you just have to tell it what you want them to be...

usually, one creates three partitions... one for the system, one for the users (home directory), and one for the swap...

one way to go, for example, with a 20gb disk would be to use 4gb for root, 1gb for swap, and the 15gb left for home...

the mount point for your root partition would usually most definitely be /

the mount point for your user's directories would usually be /home

but you can make it what you want...

oh yeah, and you don't get to mount the swap...

later in the install you will be given the choice to install a bootloader... either lilo or grub... it will be used to boot your bootable partitons, in this case /dev/hda1 (windoze) and /dev/hdb1 (linux)... so when the computer starts you get a choice between "windows" and "linux"...

everything you need to start is on the cds, you need not get anything anywhere else...
