Input/Output reading error /dev/hdc

Hey,

I must say I feel really stupid now...
I'm trying to install Red Hat v4 on our computer. It had Windows on it before, but Windows for some reason decided to shut down, so I'm using it as a practice computer now.

I went through the whole graphical installation. Since it already had Windows installed I choose to delete all partitions. At the end I got an anaconda error, saying something that I had to submit the error log to somewhere. I didn't think it was a great deal, so when it say that it was now safe to reboot the system, I did. So I'm going through the installation thing again. I can only get to where you select keyboard configuration. I select U.S. English, then it starts hanging for a while and an error msg pops up: "Input/output error during read on /dev/hdc".

I googled it... And came up with someone saying something about the hard drive being on the wrong IDE bus?? I have no idea what this means...

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Brgds,
Cecilie

well hdc is your 3d ( third ) hard drive
You most likely wont be able to get to the system bios , but maybe . and change the drive order .Or open the box and change the order on the cable .
I take it that the computer is VERY old and that is why you are installing a outdated red hat OS .RHEL 5.2 is the current .

I went into the cabinet and change the cable on the motherboard to where it said SATA1, it was in SATA2.... When I powered it up I got the same error msg but this time with /dev/hda...

I don't think the computer is THAT old... Maybe a year or something..

Could something have happened to the hard drive when I choose to delete all partitions?? Cause it went through the first stage the first time, expect the anacoda error...

Btw, I'm installing v4 because that's the only thing we have onboard....
