Inkscape install--Yum or "configure, make, make install"

Hi. I'm confused about when to use Yum (included with CentOS), and when to install a program by the use of the configure, make, install directives. I've not used either (besides installing nmap w/ Yum, which was a snap).

The readme file with Inkscape says:

Inkscape uses the standard procedure for compilation and installation:

./configure
make
make install

Should I follow this, or use Yum? Do I still need to worry about dependencies, per the readme file?

Your advice will be appreciated.

Yum will install an already compiled version and take care of deps.

You should always use yum unless:

* You want a never version or the software is not included in the repos.
* You want a specific function, not enabled by default.
* You like to compile your programs.
* Other (explain...)

PS, inkscape is included on the rpmforge repo.
