initial configuration of network on Slackware

I installed Slackware 14.2 x86 32 bit on Friday on my Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop(Pentium 4, 2Gb RAM, 80 Gb hard drive, Broadcom 44xx/47xx PCI ethernet driver, Broadcom B43 wireless driver) and cannot connect to the internet via the ethernet, nor can I connect via wireless.

I know that both are working properly, since I am writing this from the same computer, using a live CD of Slacko Puppy Linux 6.3.2

What can I do to fix this?

A question within a question: do I need use vi to edit the/etc/rd.d/rc.modules file?

I am a complete Linux newbie but still want to use Slackware as my main learning tool. This computer is what I currently have available, so any help is appreciated.

Thank you for all help!

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

You can use; http://docs.slackware.com/slackware:beginners_guide?s

Plus, since you have a working Gnu/Linux using Slacko Puppy the identification of modules in use will be helpful.

You should be able to use; https://slackbuilds.org/result/?search=b43&sv=14.2

Checking Slackware forum via Search for the broadcom subject 'B43' will give you some helpful posts to setup your devices since this has been covered many times in the past.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!
