Infra-red mouse works on windows 7 but not on the Linux side of dual boot system.

I am brand new to Linux (as of yesterday) and would like to know if there is a fix or do I need a different mouse. If so, any recommendations? Thanks in advance, Alan

I think far more information is needed. Which make and model of computer is this? Which version of Linux? Which make and model of mouse? Does it not function at all or does it function badly or only have some functionality?
I haven't seen a case of a mouse not working at all under Linux before.

Infra-red mouse issue

The Linux os was installed yesterday and the installer checked for updates and found none. The PC is an Acer e machine w/Windows 7, also. The mouse's info has worn off. It is corded. The mouse works perfectly on Windows but not at all on Linux. For what it's worth the arrow on the screen is exactly centered.

????
what is the name of this unknown operation system ?
and WHAT version is it ?

for example: if it is the "past End Of Life" and unsupported CentOS 4
there would be no updates because it is so old it is not supported any longer

USB ?
or the round Mouse / keyboard port?

is it a 3 button mouse ?
or
some odd 12 button mouse ?

I always buy (wired) Microsoft mice.
It's the only decent product they've ever produced.

I'm not sure why but I tried a LogiTech wireless mouse and it works fine.
