Info on Linux kernel source versioning and release system
I've recently hit some confusion regarding the system/logic underlying the release and the versioning of the Linux kernel sources, as well as the patches.
In other words info on:
* version numbers
* the 'rc' numbers that crop up here and there
* the patch numbering system and what it all means ( w.r.t. to
the LINUX kernel )
* stable releases ( and how to recognize one )
* development releases (how to recognize one from a stable one)
Where would one look for information on this topic?
