Increasing size of a user folder

Hi,
We have a ftp RH Ent 5 server. One user in another country is putting file into his home directory.
So these are my questions
How can I see the total size of any size folder?
How can I increase that size?
Or there is a better way to manage this ftp server?
For now I created another folder outside his home folder and give them rights
Thank you

Depends on how they're defined/set-up ...

See answer to two ... and that said: ftp is not really a good
idea, everyone along the route could theoretically snoop the
passwords out of the session. Make them use scp/sftp instead.

Cheers,

What do you mean by how they are defined

Since I am new to Linux, I did not do anything fancy, I just created the user and its folder and give them users and group rights to that folders.
Thank for all the help
