Increasing size of a folder

As I have a opt/sybase folder in Linxs I want to increase the size of this folder how can I increase it? For example the size we mention at the time of installation Sybase is 2gb now I want to increase by 4gb how can I increase it. Please help me.

Directory (folder) has no size. I think you are talking about increase partition size.

If you have lvm then you can incress partitin size or you can use gpartd.

You could in effect add an additional hdd subsystem that you create a new filesystem on that could contain the original contents of the folder then mount same to the original mount point. This is done all the time by users who want to implement in this fashion. Type of filesystem is dependent on your design criteria.

Most of my partition schemes are done in this manner since the systems are test benches and are changing configurations all the time.
