Inbuilt CPU speaker problem

I have IBM ThinkCenter PC in which speaker is inbuilt in the CPU. I have problem to play songs through the speaker. It works sometimes. It stops playing if I make a change in the volume control (alsamixer) or the volume control in the panel (gnome). If I happen to change the volume, then I need to reboot the system but no guaranty that sound will work in the next boot.

I am using Mandriva 2008

Any help?

Saji

My apologies, I should have asked this earlier. What model thinkcenter is this? I.E. A50p, A55, M52e, etc. Until then you could try this. Look for this file.
Code:
/etc/modprobe.d
See if it looks anything like this.
Code:
# /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-fix
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack
As far as sound across a reboot, once you get sound working the way you want it issue as root or su
Code:
alsactl store
Good luck. ;-)
