First point us in the right direction by giving us a lot more details. What distribution are you using? What kind of printer is it? Exactly how are you going about configuring it, because there are several different ways to do it. Don't just ask us vague questions, you have to spell out exactly what you're doing, what else you've already tried, and what results you're getting.
Read the first link below about asking questions, then follow the other links to locate which printer driver you need to use. Then you can come back to ask about how to install it if necessary.

Thanks. Am using Mandrake Linux 10 (now "Mandriva 10"? ).
The printer is an HP Photosmart C4385 which has wireless capability. Have mounted the printer's cd and viewed the files, but it won't install, despite the cd settings being on "auto run" for data files. Is that because the appropriate printer driver is absent, or is there some other step to be taken before the cd will install?
As the desktop does not have a wireless adaptor it connects to the wireless router via ethernet cable. The router runs a wireless network with two other computers and the printer. For a non-Windows operating system, the printer manual recommends we use the network configuration program of my wireless LAN card to match the existing network profile
I have identified the recommended driver file, i.e. hplip-3.9.4b.run Where do I download and install this file to in M10?
Also, where in M10 does one go to load upgrades ?
