Importing profile from Windows to Linux
Hi, I'm trying to import my profile, everything from bookmarks to passwords into my Mandriva One Spring 2007 edition using FireFox
I'm using FEBE to backup my profile. However, any way that I can get my settings and info over to my Linux computer will be helpful. Thanks |
Using FEBE will backup EVERYTHING. With the 'Entire Profile' button un-checked, you can see where it will backup usernames, passwords, security settings, themes, extensions, etc.
If you're talking about some sort of non-Firefox, Windows-specific settings, I'm not sure.. Please clarify :) |
I backed up my profile on the Windows machine. Transferred the backup file: profile{default}.fbu to the Linux machine and encountered a problem where I can't restore the profile on the active profile. I have no idea how to create a new one.
If I have to, I'm willing to transfer all my bookmarks and passwords manually. Whatever works. If we can get FEBE working, that hopefully will save me lots of time. Thanks for the quick response. :) Edit, I'm using the latest stable version of FireFox on both machines |
Firefox profile manipulation is funny.. It's been a long time, but if I recall, (atleast under Winblowz) you can start firefox with a -p switch, to access the profile chooser. I'm not certain, but you may be able to edit the profiles there, and perhaps change the one to where you imported stuff, to be the default.
If this doesn't help at all, let me know, I'll see if I can help figure it out. |
I think I need to create a new profile on the Linux machine
I've found the command to do that on the firefox site, but I'm not sure what directory to be in, since the command didn't work from the desktop directory. EDIT: [Floydian@localhost ~]$ the dir command brings up this: Desktop Documents Download Music Pictures tmp Video The fist one is where I tried to create the profile from. |
in a console, with all firefoxes closed, type 'firefox -ProfileManager'

Thanks a bunch!
I've got it going now! I had the command wrong. I appreciate all the help! |
Excellent, you're welcome :)
