image editing

im brand new to linux. I Have an image that I need to edit. It is a horseshoe with horse head in middle and with text wrapped around horse shoe. I have Gimp Image Editor but do not know how to use it. I need to remove the text and add my own text to it. Can anyone tell me how to do this??

Trying to explain that is a bit complex in the context of a forum post.

See Meet the Gimp for excellent tutorials; it's the best free resource I've found for learning to use the GIMP.: http://blog.meetthegimp.org/table-of-contents/

You can download all the video tutorials also, but you will need to torrent the older files.
