Im the only user on SUSE 10.0 and it will not allow me in the root folder

I have just installed my SUSE 10.0 Linux distro yesterday and I have run into a problem. I am the only user on that system and I set all of the passwords. When i tried to access the root folder it said that i didnt have permission to access it. This conufed me becuase i setup SUSE 10.0 for just myself. I typed in "su" to get to the root and i entered my password when it asked for it. It did not send me to the root folder, instead it sent me to something like "(none)bfgeier:". I'll post exactly what it says shortly. What can I do to resolve this issue so that I have administrator rights over everything and I can go anywhere in Linux?

This is what results after I type in "su" on the command line when it first opens.

When I try to go into the "My Computer" on the desktop and attempt to open the root folder that way a message pops up and says "Unable to enter file:///root. You do not have access rights to this location. The root folder has a little red lock with a red outlet in front of it. Please help if you know what I can do to resolve this issue. Thanks a bunch!

What are your reasons for wanting to enter /root, there is nothing in there after all. If you use KDE, you can run Konqueror in superuser mode, but to be honest there are very few instances where you may need to do this. If you use "su" you won't inherit all of roots path, but those of the user that you were when you ran the command. To be dropped into roots home directory, you need to du "su -". Anything you need to do as root, can be done from your normal user account, its just safer, even if you are the only person using that computer.

Also, if you su in a shell (terminal window), the elevated priveliges only apply for that particular terminal session.

Did you enter YOUR password (as you seem to indicate above) or root's password (as you should) after typing su?
