Hi

I just do not understand and keep looking at it like WIndows !!!!
Its like learning a new language
HEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPP

XavierP 04-13-2009 09:11 AM

What exactly do you not understand?

Disillusionist 04-13-2009 09:27 AM

Linpus lite is designed for Netbooks.

It has the basic systems that people need, and attempts to make life easy for people who have never had a computer before by grouping common tasks.

It also offers a more typical desktop through the "Switch Desktop" button.

Personally, I find that the system is too restrictive.

guyman 04-13-2009 09:27 AM

everything,
i cant even download and install a simple game !
can connect it to my printerr on wifi !
blah blah blah

Nylex 04-13-2009 09:28 AM

If you want help, please be aware that you need to be explicit with your requests - i.e. tell us exactly what the problem is when installing software, or doing other tasks (e.g. tell us what exactly you've done, what you're trying to install, any error messages, etc). Also, you should note that Windows software won't run under Linux without help.

ok, someone told me to download wine, which i did. I then managed to download a scrabble game and run the trial version somehow.
I then stupidly paid for the full version as its the game my missus plays and its her Acer netbook.
I then went back into game and clicked on the "already purchased game"
a window appears and stays blank with a little clock icon in bottom left corner.
What i dont understand is , how the hell i did it in the 1st place , how do i get the full version to run ? just for starters, i keep wathching nd reading things but am just lost. What is wine , yum etc ? how do they work ? omg

Nylex 04-13-2009 10:08 AM

Again, you've not given enough information to be able to help you. Where did you get this game from? Did you follow some kind of instructions?

WINE lets you run Windows programs under Linux. YUM is a package management system for some Linux distributions, like Linpus. If Linpus has documentation available, I suggest you read it.

Please, post specific questions telling us exactly what you want to do and what you don't understand.

I think this is double post. Check the one with title "scrabble".

Nylex 04-13-2009 10:24 AM

Double posting is frowned upon here and the mods close duplicate threads.

guyman 04-13-2009 10:30 AM

o i give up !
i frown upon Linux OS !

MasterC 04-13-2009 10:42 AM

Hello guyman,

I understand you are having problems. What the other posters are suggesting is you ask a specific question to a problem you are having such as you have with your scrabble thread. For someone to generically respond with an all encompassing answer to your question would take an incredible amount of time. Specific questions help everyone because then people can look at your problem and provide a solution rather than commence a novel that may or may not solve any of your issues.

I hope that helps you understand why it's important to ask the right questions to help you get your netbook working better for you.

Or merge them. It's not a hanging offence, we normally just take a finger for first offences :)

http://www.linpus.com/download_4.php is a link to download manuals for Linpus. I would say that these would be a good start point. I would also suggest Rute and Running Linux and Linux in a Nutshell. This link explains about installing software. This link goes into a little detail about the system you own. Go here too. This thread on LQ will also be a good start point.

You need to remember that Linux is a whole different system from Windows. While there will be similarities, things on Linux are done differently. Hopefully, over time, you will come to appreciate them as we do. To help you on LQ, a very talented and sexy (yet modest) writer put this together to help everyone with putting together questions - please take a look at it. making the questions easier to read and answer helps everyone.

Don't worry about it! If anyone opens two similar threads, someone reports it, and the Moderators close one and/or merge them. You're not going to be flogged or hung for doing it. :)
At least, I don't think so...

Aaargh! Slower typer than XavierP!!!
