If you have a PCI sound card, should you disable the on-board sound card?

If you have a PCI sound card, should you disable the on-board sound card?

Details

I have an old SoundBlaster Live sound card that I have ran forever, but my ABIT motherboard has a build on sound card as well.

I have read to disable the on-board sound card in the BIOS if your going to use a PCI sound card and this solves some issues trying to get ALSA to work in Slackware 10 Kernel 2.4.26

Thank you for reading this post.

If you want to use the Soundblaster, I'd advise disabling the onboard sound.
If you decide to go with the Soundblaster, you shouldn't have too much trouble configuring it.
