IDE Raid controller and linux

I have a computer with an ide ultra pci ata 133 controller (ite 8212)connected to a 120 GB hard drive. I have xp installed on it with 30 Gb free space left for linux. My problem is once I boot with the linux CD (Debian) in it it does not recognize the hard drive and says that this is a diskless workstation. I located the drivers for it, and Debian has an option for installing drivers from a floppy. But when I try to load the drivers (iteraid.o) it says....Syntax Error "(" load failed.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Unless you are very eager to use Debian, I suggest you try another distro. Maybe knoppix will do. And it's debian based.
Due to its very thorough testing routine, Debian releases new stuff in a very large cycle.
