Ibm laptop display is not normal


hello everybody.

i have a ibm thinkpad 600m, i installed red hat 9.
my display come out all mess up. i try adjusting it by the display properties with the vertical and horizontal setting but it dont seem to work. Is this like windows that it needs video drivers. (i am new to linux.)
Please help.

What's the things IBM part number? I need to
know the graphics chipset.
