i8kutils issue: no /proc/i8k on Dell Inspiron 8500
 
I'm new to linux. I'm running fedora on a Dell Inspiron 8500. I'd like to get my special volume buttons to work, so I installed i8kutils.

The problem (I think): i8kutils can't work without the file /proc/i8k, which should contain fan status, CPU temperature, and button status info. It appears that this file is missing. I don't know where to start looking for problems. Is there something I should have configured at some point so that fedora knows it is running on an Inspiron 8500?

helllo there,
I have a I8200 and I had the same problem. Make sure tha t i8k module is loaded with the command lsmod.
I am pretty sure that might be the problem.
