Unhappy i want to start learning one 3d software and i don't know select maya or blender?


hi buddies,
i want to learn 3d software in linux and now i don't know which programs i select. maya? or blender?
i worked 2d and there are many 2d software on windows but problem is windows because it is not sure and i think it is a symphony of viruses.beside in my country there is no copyrights and it is another problem.blender is free & maya is expensive but more powerful.

overall which distro & which 3d software do you suggest me?

Distro: Try a few and see which you like the most. If you are new to Linux I would recommend to try Mint, Mepis or PCLinuxOS. Some people will also recommend Ubuntu, but I find it rather buggy and their new user interface is rather controversial, so I won't recommend it. But that is a personal opinion, you may like it.

3D software: I would go for Blender, it is free and there is a lot of documentation out there for free and many commercial books. It should be available in the repository of any major (and most other) distros.
