I wanna play FreeCiv!
Ok, I dont want to sound any dumber than is absolutely necessary, BUT ... can I play FreeCiv alone? Or is is just a multi-player game?
I've tried starting the FreeCiv server and then the client. And then nothing happens. What am I missing? Will a re-install help (I'm using Suse 7.3)? Or is it a multi-player game only? Joe |
try connecting to the free-civ server with the client using 127.0.0.1 as the server address in the client.
|
First start the server then connect to localhost or 127.0.0.1
Then on the server type set aifill=4 this tells the server to add ai users up to a total of 4 users. Now type start |
first off, i i cant run civ as root, either client nor server. when i switch to my regular user, whether i set up the server to listen at port 127.0.0.1 or the client to connect at 127.0.0.1 it says to me "adress in use" or "permission denied"(for the port followed by unable to open display :0. im in x, and it doesnt work in x or console mode. do i need to give my user 'jim' permissions to bind tcp ports or something or what? i dont get what's going on...

What errors do you get, if any?
You should not have to edit the configuration of your server, just fire it up and then start the client. In the connection dialog on the client type in the 127.0.0.1 as host and leave the port as is. |
im not setting up any file, and i listed the errors i get. read the post a bit better. i type civserver -p 127.0.0.1 to make it listen at the specified port. same for civclient.the gui version of freeciv i have doesnt even come anywhere near starting up, so i have to start it from the command line...
