I think I just got Linuxs version of BSoD....
Mint 17.1 Rebecca
Was listening to music on youtube when suddenly everything freezed and I couldnt do anything. Had to force shut my laptop by holding the power button. Tried to turn it on again and I could still hear the song. Then removed the AC Power and the battery and then started my laptop again. Is working OK now. Should I be worried? |
lmao -- maybe just maybe your pc loved that song you where listening to so much it panicked, because it does not trust you, it did the next and most logical thing. Frezzing up to ensure that you did not interfear with anything that might cause you to stop that song from playing. Even after you shut it off. because it was still playing when you truned it back on again.
R U sure you're not running A.I. on your Computer? |

I had similar behaviour on Mandriva - previous session's desktop screen as a splash screen background. |
It wasnt even playing ahead, was just stuck on one part of the song
|
I get that sometimes on Slackware 14.1. I find that Ctrl+Alt+F1 (to switch to a virtual terminal) and then Ctrl+Alt+F7 to switch back to X fixes it.
Also, next time your computer locks up, try to ssh into it before you resort to the power button. |
How long does it take to resume? After pressing Ctrl+Alt+F7 .....
|
your hardware is probably underpowered to play flash video.
try uninstalling flashplugin, youtube will then default to html5. or, your gpu might benefit from a proprietary driver. the output of Code:
lspci -k | grep -iEA5 'vga|3d' |
OP, what are the specs of your computer?
|
Yeah, it pretty much is. How do I delete flash?
lspci -k | grep -iEA5 'vga|3d' returns: 0:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D4xx/D5xx/N4xx/N5xx Integrated Graphics Controller Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device c08f Kernel driver in use: i915 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D4xx/D5xx/N4xx/N5xx Integrated Graphics Controller Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device c08f 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) |
Underpowered netbook?
flash might never work properly. maybe not even html5; but worth a try: Quote:
open a terminal, enter this command: Code:
dpkg -l '*flash*' but only some of them will have 'ii' on the left, meaning installed. from these, find the flashplugin. use its Name to execute the following command: Code:
sudo apt-get purge Name |
Did I do it right? :-

netbook is dead when playing flash |
My single core atom n270 netbook with intel graphics still plays youtube OK with flash or html.
The CPU runs all the way up (around 100%). But no skips or lagging. I monitor mine with conky, I have 2 gig of ram. I run AntiX on mine which has less going on in the background than most distros. You might think of using this instead of watching videos in your browser online. I use it on my netbook also. http://www.smtube.org/ edit; for sites outside of youtube https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/fir...without-flash/ If you have mpv installed (I do) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/fir...atch-with-mpv/ |
Mint 17.1 Rebecca here, with no flash and youtube plays just fine.
Not a laptop. Firefox 27.x.x |
