Hello Guys!

You need to burn the ISO to a CD and then boot from it. Before burning though, you'll also want to check the MD5sum using MD5summer (if you're using Windows) and check it matches the one given for the file on the mirror you downloaded from.

RMLinux 08-10-2006 01:48 AM

What is MD5sum?

Nylex 08-10-2006 01:50 AM

Basically, a string of characters generated that you can use to check against the one given on the mirror for integrity. If they don't match, you'll need to download the file again as in that case, it would be corrupt.

RMLinux 08-10-2006 01:53 AM

How will I know that? I do not know about Linux I am very new on Linux. They said Download the ISO and Burn it and make a bootable CD? What kind of OS should be on that CD? MSDOS?

Currently friend I am using Windows XP

Nylex 08-10-2006 01:57 AM

There will be a .md5 file on the mirror you downloaded from and it will contain the checksum for the file. Save it to your machine and use MD5summer. There's some info about how to use it here.

What do you mean by, "what kind of OS should be on that CD?"? Surely Linux will be on it? Also, another thing to note it when you burn the ISO, make sure you select the "burn image" option in whatever software you're using (e.g. Nero) because if you burn the file as regular data, you won't be able to boot from the CD.

RMLinux 08-10-2006 02:01 AM

ok friend i downloaded already the md5v12011.zip Released 05-04-2006, the content is md5summer. in the website that you gave.

What is the Next Step?

RMLinux 08-10-2006 02:04 AM

When I double click md5summer in Windows XP, there is a Window Dialog appear saying ".md5" files appear to be associated with a different copy of md5summer. Should I associate them with this one?" YES OR NO?

What will be the next step?

HOW TO CREATE LIVE CD KNOPPIX?

Nylex 08-10-2006 03:03 AM

Have you already got a copy of MD5summer on your machine? It's up to you if you associate the files with that program, but I don't think it would hurt to do so.

I've already told you how to make the CD, re-read my earlier posts.

Also, please don't create more than one thread on the same topic as it's against the rules.

RMLinux 08-10-2006 03:18 AM

Sorry, How to delete the other one thread?

I don't have "image file". my nero prompt c:\image.img

sorry this is my first time using "NERO"

The md5 file should be in the same directory where the iso file is located to make the md5summer program work. I suggest using BitTorrent clients like Azureus instead of doing this extra step. BitTorrent clients checks chunk of information that comes in and checks the whole entire file when it is finished, so there is no need to do a check sum.

ISO files are images of the whole entire disk. They contain everything that the maintainer or the developer has created on their own disk. Really there is no need for any software to boot off the CD. Some systems may need to use a floppy if the BIOS does not support booting from CD or DVD.

I suggest reading the manual for Nero. It should explain how to make a disc from an image file or ISO file.

Can't help you with this, unfortunately. If you find out how to fix it though, please post back here.

Could be a bad burn. Try burning the image again at a slower speed.
