I replaced windows 7 with ubuntu 11.04 and cannot get on the internet

I replaced windows 7 with ubuntu 11.04 and cannot figure out how to get on the internet. Smeone told me to go to SYSTEM, ADMINISTRATION, NETWORKING then select connections tab. These will not show up on this system.

Perhaps someone can tell me if I need to redownload the ubuntu or what. Will greatly appreciate your help.

To help you we need more information:
1. How do you connect to the internet, wired or wireless?
2. Which network hardware does your system use? You can see that if you launch
Code:

lspci | grep -i net
in the terminal (you should find that in your menu).

I am not that familiar with Ubuntu 11.04, but AFAIK the have moved the Systemsettings-menu, so that you have to click on the logout-button in your panel to get it. Somewhat silly, but true.

Hello and thanks for your quick reply and offer to help me. I am using wired dial up internet service. I am not sure what network hardware I have unless it is the same I had with windows 7.
Can you tell me how to find out those things without being able
to get on the internet with that machine. Am having to use my old Dell to get on the internet.
I will attempt to get the other info and send it to you.

Thanks.

The hardware will be the same as in Windows if you didn't change it. Since I don't know much about dial up-connection I think I can't help any further. Try to look for something like Network or Network Manager in your Settings menu, which you will find when pressing the logout-button in the panel.
