I need to reinstall redhat, some help quick
8.1 seems not to like my pc :/
I would like to switch to 8.0 as a fresh install but keep like most of my files(webserver and its files) Friend said to bunzip the would partition(18%used) and reinstall i got 2 questions how do i archive the whole thing and how to i make redhat install remove everything except that archive file so its like a fresh install? |
easiest way I would do this is backup all the files you want on another partition, then wipe and start new. That's your best bet if you're going with a whole new distribution.

ok well i am making a backup tar bz2 file now
i only have 1 main partition and its 18 gigs totol, 3gigs used should i during install resize this one, make a new one and install the new system on it? or just move the backup file to a new partion and then clean the old one if second, i dont know how to make a new partition in shell. if i just make a new one from the old one... its gonna be a tard cause 3gigs used + 3gig backup file - 6gigs can yu guide me where i can get a tutirial on making a new partition, moving the backup there? |
ext2resize or something like that is the name of the app.. I'd have to research it but I know it can be done. Check the HOWTO library.. www.linuxdoc.org .
Hopefully this helps, maybe someone that's done this before can post? I've never had a need to do this, but I understand the concepts. Good luck. |
