What does it means i386, i486, i586, i686?


I have an Intel Celeron processor and i want to know what type is it of the above.

You can actually use any of them.. ;)

This is asked all the time, you should really try searching. I don't mean to just point you to a search but if you've been here long enough, you've probably seen this same type of question literally a thousand times..

The higher the number the better, anything Pentium Pro and above (including your Celeron) is i686. 64 bit CPUs are x86_64 or ia64, depending on the chip type. Then you get into Sparcs and the others but who really cares about them :p I'm not lucky enough to own one.
