Add Printer

It is very simple to add printer. just click to printers in the control panel. you can see the different printers drivers in the list. just type your printer brand and model . you will get the driver from the list itself if your printer is linux supported.

Would help if you told us what version/distro of Linux you're using, what desktop environment, and what kind of printer.

Your question could be about a huge back-room line printer connected over the network to a headless Linux server in a backroom, or your laptop with a small inkjet connected via USB. Methods are different, depending on what you have. Provide details.

thanks for the reply, I am using elementry OS LUNA, it is based on Ubuntu 12.04LTS, Linux Kernel version 12.04. The printer is a Canon Pixma and I am connecting via a USB port.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Mike

In Ubuntu with Unity you can add a printer this way:
http://blog.sudobits.com/2012/04/13/...-ubuntu-12-04/
By coincidence that user seems to have the same printer as you, so it should work.
However, you are using Luna. I am not familiar with what desktop environment Luna uses, so it is likely different on Luna than Ubuntu with Unity.
According to this review, the DE is based on Gnome but it is called Pantheon:
http://www.everydaylinuxuser.com/201...millenium.html
Anyway, if you can open a terminal you should be able to add a printer by running this command:
Code:

sudo system-config-printer
See this: http://askubuntu.com/questions/22987...n-ubuntu-12-04
That command should be the same on Luna since it is based on Ubuntu.

EDIT: According to this link the graphical way to add a printer on Luna is:
system setting->printers

Write back if you need more help.

the cups web interface
