I messed Synaptic up and need to get it working again

I'm new to repositories. so I tried to add a web address:
http://www.medibuntu.org
Now when I try to open Synaptic I get the following dialog:
"An Error Occurred
E:Malformed line 48 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read
Go to the Repository dialog to correct the problem.
E:_cache->open() failed. please report."

My only option is to close the dialog and then synaptic closes.

How can I fix this so I can use Synaptic again?

Did you follow the instructions here?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

Wish I'd seen those first. No I didn't. But now I still cant get Synaptic to work.

I just did the command line instructions at the site you gave me but synaptic still wont open without the dialog box.

Well, you'll need to delete that faulty entry from your sources.list. Do that, then try running the website instructions again, see if that works.

I can't get into the application so how else can I delete the faulty entry. It is in some sort of config file isn't it? Is it in multiple files and what are the names and locations. I am using Dolphin as the file manager. If I sound new to linux, its cause I am.

Got it. It was up under /etc/apt/ and it was the file sources.list

I kept looking at the sources.list.d directory and there was no file in there until after I ran the medibuntu command.

Thanks for the help. I'm up and running again!
