I have downloaded Puppy. How do I put it on a flash drive?

A friend of mine told me to try Puppy. How do I proceed after downloading it. I would like to put it on a flash drive as I am using an Eee PC with no CD drive but it will boot off of a USB flash drive. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there and welcome to LQ!

If you are using ubuntu, as your little forum-icon thingy suggests (:P) there is a great little utility in System > Administration > USB Startup Disk Creator.

Open this up and browse to where your CD image (*.iso) is stored and load that up in the top list box. On the second, select your flash drive which i would recommend to be 1GB or more. Just a warning... the app will wipe completely your flash drive so make a backup or use an old one!

To boot on the netbook, i think you may have to go into the bios and change the boot order, or press a key like F11 or F8 to enter the boot selection menu. Sorry to be vague but i dont own one :P

If this doesnt work for you, please let me know what went wrong, or shout at me for anything ive missed

Regards

James

I tried that and the utility stated that "This is not a desktop install CD and thus cannot be used by this application." At least it was polite about it. What do I do, download the ISO again and try a second time?

You can use Unetbootin for creating a live usb, you can either use the iso file that you have downloaded or let Unetbootin do it for you.
check this for more details.

Looks like I have a little reading to do. Thanks. I'll let you know if it comes out right, but it doesn't seem complicated at all.
