I have 2 hard-drives, but it says i have 3!wtf!

I've tried to install Fedora Core3 but I'm having trouble with the partitioning and boot-loader. I want to install it on my hard drive with Windows XP on it, but I also want to reserve some storage space for Fedora on the other, bigger hard-drive. I also don't want windows to boot automatically, I want to choose which one to boot from a menu. Please help me into the linux community, I'm learning C++ and would like to be able to contribute oneday.

Update! : I'm screwing Fedora Core 3 and going for Mandrake. That also brings up problems. It says i have sda and sdb hard drives, which is correct. It also says that i have VolGroup00!?! which it says is 147 Gb, which is about the same size as my bigger hd. But it already recognizes my other HD!&$%# ...calming down... it won't let me past this installation point because of that. I don't know what to do. Plz help me my second hard-drive and linux CDs are going to waste . Is there anything else you need to know?

I had this problem a while ago and I found out that the installer thought that my printer was a hard drive because of the memory card reader thats installed on the printer.

Little more clarity would be helpful. Now if I understand right, you want to install Fedora on the hard drive with Windows XP (which is the first hard drive) while the second is empty (I guess) and you want it to be your storage space right?

Hmmm, I do have a printer with a memory card reader, but why would it think that its 147 Gb. I never have had it do that before though. Yes you are correct- tuxrules, i want my second hd to have a couple gigs or more reserved on my bigger hard drive for linux.

You would need some free space on your first hard drive (which I suppose you have) or you can make some space with a partition resizing software (like Partition Magic). You can install Fedora Core 3 on that free space (hard drive 1 and install GRUB bootloader on Master Boot Record). After installation you can mount your other drive and use fdisk program to partition and make storage space. You can then use automatic mounting through /etc/fstab to mount that storage everytime you boot up.

I hope this helps
