how do i get into my bios

Are you getting a prompt asking for a password?
If yes, can you ask the friend for the password? If not, can you post the make and model of the system. Look for a sticker on the bottom or of the unit. There are usually manuals available online that tell you the hot key sequence to hit. Some systems it the esc key, some its F10 or F8. There may be others. |
also...
I am given many old Dells, and usually there's a jumper on the motherboard which "erases" all system passwords. Typically, you power off, move the jumper, power on through start-up, power off, and replace the jumper. So finding a manual for your system is worth the effort.

Resetting the BIOS password can be considered cracking a computer, which would be against the LQ Rules, but I am not sure about this.
Therefore I asked a moderator to have a look at this thread. |

There is a Linux OS installed in this computer ?

Most motherboards have a jumper that will reset the Bios. Usually you just short it out, wait a few seconds, then remove the short and fire up the computer. As I rarely password protect my Bios, I have no idea if this reset will wipe out the password protection as well though.

This is a direct quote from the Acer web site.

As other have suggested, if you want to do this your self, there will be a jumper to use, or on some systems, you have to remove the BIOS battery, and allow the BIOS to become reset. On some systems it can take some time for this to work. The battery I'm talking about looks like a quarter, its not the battery the system uses when not plugged in. You have to disassemble the hardware and find it. Acer doesn't seem to provide any hardware maintenance doc online. At least I couldn't fine it. I looked under Acer Aspire One. The model you provided is not listed. |
