Talking I Did It I Got My Geforce To Work!

I Mike Miller, read the readme asked a few questions about vim and shutting down X, then proceeded to make my GeForce work on my Linux desktop! The result, success! I did it! I saw an NVidia screen when I restarted X!

I do have two last questions, in the readme from NVidia, it told me just to change the Driver from "Vesa", to "nvidia" can I change the other item? Like the Identifyier name, the card name etc. or will that destroy everything?

Second, if I upgrade my Linux distro to Redhat 9.0 via the upgrade option will that remove all my work to get the GeForce to work?

Thanks,
Mike

Changing the names won't destroy things as such but you'll have to change the references in other sections of the config file that referred to the old identifier names to reflect these changes, so maybe best just to leave it as it is, doesn't really make any difference really..

All can say there is a good chance you'll have to install it again if you upgrade or change your kernel but this is only based on my particular experience, maybe different.

You will have to reinstall if you upgrade the kernel, no matter what method you use.

There is a nice little script currently named "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run" available from NVidia that pretty much does the install for you. Look here for the installer.

HTH!
