I am a complete newbie at this and this is my first time i have got linux installed. Should i visit some site to update mandrake with security fixes or what not or is there some important reading i should do that will tell me what's what?

Great! Congrats!. Whats next depennds.

Since you are in a dual boot environment, you have to think hard about how to migrate applications to Linux and be prepared to face teething troubles. Have a plan and take it one by one. Think about the app. Do you have all downloads, software. Make a list and go.

Is email in Linux? If not, that could be a logical first step. Or your favourite office apps.

End

OK i seem to have hit a snag. I found the mandrake updater tool and updated everything (I'm not sure what most of it was but thought it was probably better to update everything just in case. At the moment i am trying to install firefox and am not having and sucess. I read the instruction that come with the firefix download and have followed them but still nothing seems to work. I went back to the mozilla site and it said to us a unpacker called ark. I have just found ark but i cannot extract it to the folder i want because it say i don't have permission. So i su to root and that doesn't help either. Do i have to log out and then log back in as root or am i missing something.
