I cant do what i could with my default linux "user"

Hello,

I have installed ubuntu and because didnt ask to type a login name,it made a "oem" user by default. So, i create a new one and i removed the old one ("oem") but now i can do nothing!(For example, add/remove programs, synaptic packages and stuff like that). What i must do to bring old 'user' back?

How did you "remove" the old one?
Just "rm -f /home/oem"? Or did you use "userdel"?

Adding users is done via "useradd". You must be root to use it.

Your new user is probably not in all the correct groups to have permission. Login as oem and the use 'id -G' to see which groups that user is a member off and then add your new user to the same ones.

It is all about sudo IMO (synaptic add/remove programs).
Can you sudo anything?
Please post your /etc/sudoers file.

I removed the old one via interface program. I cant say which one because i cant see it with the new 'user'. It was in catalog System>>Administrator>>User profiles (something like that).

cs-cam, everytime i login as oem in splash screen. But terminal shows this : oem@ILAMETH:~$ (ILAMETH is the new account). I can't understand where is "oem" and where is "ILAMETH". Iam comfused..

This is Sudoers:

# /etc/sudoers
#
# This file MUST be edited with the 'visudo' command as root.
#
# See the man page for details on how to write a sudoers file.
# Host alias specification

# User alias specification

# Cmnd alias specification

# Defaults

Defaults !lecture,tty_tickets,!fqdn

# User privilege specification
root ALL=(ALL) ALL

# Members of the admin group may gain root privileges
%admin ALL=(ALL) ALL

If your terminal shows "oem@ILAMETH" and you haven't changed the $PS1, $PS2, etc environment variables (so the prompt is the default one), then "oem" is most likely your user (check this with "whoami") and "ILAMETH" is the name of your machine or the current directory. Try changing the current directory and see if your prompt changes to check it.

The output of the following commands may thus be helpful:
Code:
whoami
hostname
id -G

Either your user must be in the admin group or you must add your user in /etc/sudoers with the visudo command (be root in recovery mode)

add the line :
newuser ALL=(ALL)ALL

and while you are at it, replace the line:
Defaults !lecture,tty_tickets,!fqdn
with
Defaults !lecture,tty_tickets,!fqdn, insults
to add some fun in sudo
