I cannot get either Ubuntu 7.10 or Sabayon 3.4e to install on my HP Pavalion a340n.

The install screen comes up in both cases and after selecting what I think is the proper install the process starts and then hanged up after a short while. The message indicates a drive mount problem. Any suggestions.

Things to try

Try a text mode install, assuming you have the live CD, or download the alternate install iso, preferably the torrent, and try that. Not always, but usually descriptions like this point to graphics.
