I can unpack firefox, but can't get it to install?
I can unpack Firefox, but can't get it to install. This is my first time using Linux(Fedora core 2) and my first experience with installing new software on Linux. I had no trouble downloading, burning and installing the O.S. So far I really like the look and feel of the system. I am not a programmer, but am usually able to work my way through new software.
I downloaded Firefox and was able to unpack it, but cannot get it to install. I unpacked it into a folder that I named Firefox, but when I open the folder the file type says "unknown type" for most of the files in the folder. I tried to open firefox installer-bin, but nothing happens, not even an error. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope I've given you enough info. |
Hi, and welcome to LQ!
I've never tried to install firefox in Gnome. I'd suggest you start a console, su -, cd to the directory and ./installer-bin If that fails, try . installer-bin Cheers, Tink |
I think that you have opened the file that contains a binary executable. So go back into the folder named firefox and type ./firefox (or maybe ./firefox-bin). That should get it to run for you.
