rokytnji I just found an old ATI 8500LE video card that someone had given me. I installed it and got it working so I'm going to try installing one the packages that I have on dvd. I'll let you know if it goes ok or not.

Well, that seems to have been the problem. It is installing now with no problems so far. I'll get the hang of this stuff yet.
Joe, I will be doing my own build. I have a very good case and power supply so I just want to upgrade the mobo and processor. So far I haven't had problems with integrated sound and video so I won't be adding any add-on cards. If you want to give me some advice on mobo's or processors by all means go ahead. I don't know if I need to spend the extra money on an i5. I was leaning toward the i3 because I don't do gaming. That's where I'm at right now.

The motherboard is exactly the component that can have the secure boot option. But if you buy it separate the chances of getting something usable are much better than if you were buying a full PC system off the shelve. Look for a mobo that supports "Legacy BIOS".
Joe, that's exactly the type of help and info that I need. Thanks. I have been watching Fry's and Newegg for a combo deal. When they sell a combo that pretty well means that they are compatible doesn't it?

What I'd recommend you is that you pick the hardware that looks good to you and open a new thread where you post the specs. We are getting a bit off of the original topic here and people who are knowledgeable in hardware compatibility questions might not even read this.
