I can't connnect my win98 pc to my linux server PC

my name Vuthachh, I am one newbie who want to know about linux, especially I would like some help from all of you.
Yestet day, I tried to install my server linux with Rhat 7.2 on one PC (This is the first time for me to try on setup Redhat). For the installation is cussefull, but I have some probleme, and I'm not if my samba configuarion
not correct or anather configuration have probleme.

I have also one win98 PC, and whenever I logon my account with my password on win98 PC I always get one message errer like this:

No Domain Server was available to validate your password. You may no to be able to gain access to some network resouce.

For this problem please explain me somme thing, I try read the doc on the site to know about smb.cof etc..

For my smb.cof when I used command #/etc/rc.d/init/smb resart We have no problem that mean every thing was OK.

thanks,

Set up samba for read and write rights for everyone, if you still have the problem, then your firewall is stopping you. You do not need DNS server to run samba. Samba can work as as a Wins server

Are you using Shorewall on your server? I was having the same problems until yesterday, when I found this: http://www.shorewall.net/samba.htm

Hope that helps!

your win 9x box is trying to log into a domain (the samba server setup you have is NOT a domain) - set it up so that it only logs into the local machine. Its been years since I worked on a 9x box, but I think it is done at the loging prompt, or under network preferences.

regardless, you should be able to contact your linux box regardless of this problem....

how exactly are you trying to connect to the linux machine? mapping a netowrk drive, the net use command??? please tell us that and we can help more.

I set my linux box up as a Windows primary domain controller, so that I could enable user authentication on my Win98 shares (I sometimes I have 2 or 3 Windows boxes as clients).

If you don't want to use it as a domain controller, on your windows box, in network properties, open the properties for "client for microsoft networks" & uncheck the logon validation box.
