First of all, Welcome to LQ :)

2nd, this is a huge field you are talking about; what area are you interested in eg programming, DBA, sysadmin, networking etc?

This is a good tutorial for the cmd line http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz

Good OpenSuse Manuals here http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...ion_index.html

Hello,

I really like OpenSuse and you can learn alot with it(I keep going back to it eventualy) but i learned the most working with Gentoo.

If you really want to learn how Linux works maybe you can try a less user friendly distro where you need to set everything up.

Just an idea.

Adol's post read a bit humorous to me at first. He actually may be correct in that linux from scratch or gentoo would be a start at the nuts and bolts of linux. That is however a far far away thing than all of the open sourced work.

I used to work at a place where double Doctor degrees were common. Trust me when I say this. You can't possibly expect to even get close to knowing it all.

You might be better served taking classes or self study books.

It isn't really relevant, but you probably aren't; the latest (released) version of openSUSE changed overnight from 11.4 to 12.1, so, putting aside arguments about time zones and when exactly the release occurred, you probably would have been completely correct yesterday and not today.

Ho, hum.

Well, the usual algorithm has several steps
  • try to do stuff
  • make mistakes
  • learn from mistakes
  • repeat

Now, while there are some variations concerning reading in advance and taking the option to make bigger mistakes, you will have to do some doing in order to really learn. This is longwinded, but to an extent at least, inevitable. But you should also note that a search on 'tutorial linux subject' almost always turns up more useful material than you can shake a stick at, these days.
