Hi and welcome to LQ.

I won't give you the answers but I know who could. The guy's name is 'Google' and his address is www.google.com.

If you see him, say hello from me.

And to add to what's been said....WHY would you be taking your RHCE, when you can't answer any of these questions????

Learn Linux first...the world certainly doesn't need another person with a 'certification', who doesn't know what their certified IN.

You people are not helping me.
really this is not good place to learning

Wrong. You are not being spoon-fed with information in the way that you had hoped, but you are being helped in a different way.

Wrong again. It may not work the way that you had wanted it to work, but it is a good place for learning.

Your decision not to learn is yours alone. This will probably not help you in your immediate objective of getting a certification and will not help you use a certification do anything useful. I think that you should reconsider your approach, but that is, as I say, up to you.

Two of these are not questions, the third contains a simple error that the computer would not accept from you. The absolute, most basic, use of a command on your computer would have helped you. You show nothing at all about what you have done so far, or what issues you have had with whatever you have actually tried.

In the site rules it is stated that we will not simply answer questions like this for you. You should try to understand why you would not actually be helped by having someone just give you answers to these kind of questions and try to understand that creating a situation in which you are dependant on online help for the most trivial of tasks is not in anyone's interests; not yours and not ours.

Per the LQ Rules that you agreed to when you registered:

YOU are not asking any questions though. what ever study course you copied these out of are the ones ASKING the questions. You also are not providing the ANSWERS by asking here for someone else to provide you the answer.

For instance, you wrote "What is the difference betweeen ping and traceroute?" That is not a question YOU are asking, however, if someone had said something like,

"I am trying to understand ping and traceroute. If i use traceroute www.google.com in a terminal, it gives me <block of traceroute>, however, if i ping "www.google.com" it doesnt work, what am i doing wrong?"

Would at least be a question you are asking, although still an answer easily found on the web. Heres a hint thought: One of those commands are for internal addresses, one is for external.

Please people, indeed homework questions are not answered at LQ, but notice that the OP is a LQ newbie and this was the very first post: it would deserve some guidance about the LQ netiquette and rules but without sarcasm or reprimands. We don't want to make LQ an unwelcoming place, right?!

hi tarunesh, don't take it by heart. this is a very good place to learn.

Indeed Google got tremendous amount of information, all you need is a right keyword.

I believe the question you asked, if you search it in Google. You will find the answer.

Try to do your part first, if you find information in Google quite confusing then you can ask other people.

But instant answer for instant question, i guess it's not a good idea.

Even instant noodle is not really instant, you have to pour a hot water on it and wait for a few minutes before you enjoy it.

So, don't take it by heart. Just remember we are all volunteers here trying to help the best way we can.

in response to colucix call to make LQ not an unwelcoming place for Newbies.
here's my contribution:

Quote:

Ping is a program that sends a series of packets to a particular network or to a specific computer, in order to generate a response from that computer.

The other computer responds with an acknowledgment that it received the packets.

Ping was created to verify whether a specific computer on a network or the Internet exists and is connected.

ICMP Packets is the one normally used when a user invokes a ping

Quote:

The traceroute utility checks how many "hops" it takes for a packet to reach another computer or IP Address.

You can use traceroute if you know the other computer's IP address, such as web site address, or name (e.g., 129.79.1.1, www.idunno.com, or ns.alien.edu).
Quote:

dig is a command-line tool for querying DNS name servers for information

about host addresses, mail exchanges, name servers, and related information.

dig is a DNS lookup utility

Nslookup of Microsoft works almost the same with dig.

In my own opinion:

ping is basically used to verify whether the other network is up or not.

While traceroute will give you a complete detail on how many hops will it take for the packet to arrive or to reach a particular IP address.

While dig will let you perform a valid DNS query and will normally display: A (the IP address), TXT (text annotations), MX (mail exchanges), and NS nameservers.

@tarunesh: hope you find this helpful :)
