I am having trouble with my tmp file
 

When i play a video off of the web or youtube it doesn't show up in my tmp file and i have some files there that are locked. could they be going there? if so how do i unlock the files?

Could be more precise about which tmp file you are referring to, perhaps by giving the full path to it? Also, it would help to know which browser you are using.

Ubuntu 12.4 64-bit. the tmp file im looking at is in the file systems then tmp. im new to the whole linux world so i dont know the exactfile path.

Then it sounds as if you might be looking in the /tmp directory which is a top-level directory used by the operating system.

If you are using Firefox, any cached data would likely be in the hidden Firefox directory in your /home/[username] directory.

On my Debian system, that's ~/.mozilla/firefox/ed4licj0.default$ (~ is shorthand for /home/username). Hidden files and directories have names that start with a period ( . ). This article gives some hints on how to view them; it's not difficult once you know the tricks.
