I am having problem with samba "Failed to add entry for user"

for some reason I cannot add my user to samba
this is what I have done so far in terminal
sudo useradd Shadowfire
sudo smbpasswd -a shadowfire
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
but I get this result
"Failed to add entry for user shadowfire"

I am very sure it is me because I have tryed this on two different Linux distros one is linux mint .
