I accidentally removed lilo from my bootsector.

Hellow everybody,

Today i formatted my harddrive C due to a nasty virus.
Almost out of a force of habit i entered "fdisk /mbr" at the
dos prompt en reformatted the c partition (slow, not fast).

After 10 minutes or so, the thought of my lilo suddenly entered
my brain, but it was too late. I destroyed my lilo with the
fdisk /mbr command. i think.

However, I am a beginning Linux user and i was doing pretty oke
with configuring knoppix to my needs, i could even burn a
ceedee under linux and watch movies ! I invested a lot of time in
configuring it and i do not wish to do it all over again.

When i boot my pc now, it does not give me the red lilo screen,
but immediately boots win2k, without giving me the choice
between linux or windows.

I am aware it is a stupid mistake, but is there a way to reinstall
the lilo loader ? And can i secure lilo in the future that i can not
delete it by accident ?

My computer:

P4, 1,62 Ghz
640 MB Rimm PC800 memory
40 GB harddrive Maxtor
Nvidia Ti4200
Windows2000 / Latest Knoppix HD install

Partitions :

C (17 GB FAT32)
D (19 GB FAT32)
EXT2 (2,5 Gig for knoppix)
SWAP (500 MB)

If you can help me it would be great !

Thanx !

Kind regards Grafbak

Yes, you can reinstall lilo.

I dunno about Knoppix, but in Slackware it you could do this way:
Maybe you have a bootable floppy. Then boot your system for them, and as root you can use pkgtool to compleate some install scripts, one of them is a "boot loader install"

I did not make a rescue floppy from my linux install, i had no real use for it i thought :-((

But i can ofcourse try to boot from the cd en do it that way ?
I will try to use the pgktool from the cdrom and try to reinstall the boot loader.

Thank you very much !
