Mandriva is great for Newbies, I found it very difficult to access my NTFS partition in Fedora Core. Anything Debain based may be tricky, but it's worth it in the end and you learn a lot on the way.

I'm a bit confused by this statement. First of all, you have SimplyMepis in your profile, so I'm assuming it wasn't too tricky for you. Secondly, I've found Debian-based distros to be the easiest around to use (just my personal preference, of course), but what's so "tricky" about them?
Pure Debian has its bumps, of course, but even that can be easy to install and use if you pick the "desktop" install option. Can you elaborate on your use of the word tricky?
yeah am using debian and am lovein it. Also what was hard about accessing ntfs using fc I had no problems. I installed the drivers and mounted it simple!!.

It was probably having to install the drivers. In most Linux distros, you can just mount NTFS--you don't have to install NTFS support... at least most Linux distros I've tried.
i have ubuntu and sarge and to tell you the truth i find ubuntu alot easier and more user freindly than sarge. why im not real sure since ubuntu is debian based. i guess the updater on ubuntu is one big difference i am having issues getting over i havent seen one in sarge yet. but ubuntu isnt as hard to understand. i have my issues with simplymepis and mandriva that made me leave them and i put suse in their place. the good thing about suse for beginners is its packed with alot of stuff out-of-box.
