Cool I'm a novice-linux user and using Redhat linux 5...having problem in real player

I'm a newbie in linux,I have recently installed Real player on my laptop having linux redhat 5 os.When I insert video CD in the rom drive,
it doesn't even show up and when I insert DVD, its icon shows up but real player gives a massage that "The following component is required...
....VOB" Though I'm able to play mp3 audio file but not the DVD and not the video cd at all... kindly give reply..Thanks.

I think realplayer is not even capable of playing back DVD-video.

There are better players IMO - "vlc" is one, "mplayer" another, "xine" and "totem" are also alternatives.
My mplayer and vlc both can play everything realplayer can - and much more.

you sent me a PM - I reply here:

To use totem to play back dvd's you need gst-plugins-ugly - as it is called here: http://www.gnome.org/projects/totem/
and of course libdvdread and/or libdvdcss to crack them
It also depends how totem is built - it can use gstreamer or xine as a backend - the gstreamer backend does not support menus:
https://help.ubuntu.com/6.10/ubuntu/...dplayback.html
http://www.gnome.org/projects/totem/
How to get all this for your distribution - I don't know - probably like any other software ...
I like "mplayer" best - I use it all the time - and sometimes "vlc". Both of them work very well for me.
